Brett Kaufman, Assistant Professor in the Department of the Classics, was awarded a grant by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) under their International Cooperation and Exchange Project.
The award is for his project entitled "Remote Sensing Identification and Modern Health Risks of Ancient Metallurgical Pollution," which endeavors to develop a global applied archaeometallurgy protocol to identify and investigate undocumented historical and ancient metallurgical waste that might be affecting modern populations.
The grant will be administered via the University of Science and Technology Beijing, Institute for Cultural Heritage and History of Science & Technology where he maintains a visiting affiliation.
